2024 Scholarship Application  Information

 

Nashville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, a public service organization, is currently accepting applications for the 2023 – 2024 academic year for its Scholarship Program.

To qualify, the applicant must be High School Senior who attends school in Davidson, Cheatham, Robertson, Sumner, Williamson or Wilson counties.  Applicant must be an African American female displaying leadership, achieving academic excellence, and community involvement who will complete high school in 2023 and plan to enroll in an accredited college or university in the Fall of 2024. 

Applications must be received before  March 31, 2024.

2024 Yvonne Y. Clark Excellence in Engineering Scholarship Application  Information

 

Who was Yvonne Y. Clark?

Yvonne Y. Clark, affectionately known as Y.Y. Clark, was a pioneer for African American and women engineers. She was a woman of many firsts.

  • The first woman to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering at Howard University

  • The first woman to earn a master's degree in Engineering Management from Vanderbilt University

  • The first woman to serve as a faculty member in the College of Engineering and Technology at Tennessee State University, then to become an emeritus Professor

Yvonne Y. Clark held many honors and distinctions.

Yvonne Young Clark helped start Tennessee State's chapter of Pi Tau Sigma, a mechanical engineering society where she encouraged women to become engineers.  As a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Nashville Alumnae Chapter, has named the Yvonne Y. Clark Excellence In Engineering Scholarship in her honor.  On January 27, 2019, Yvonne Young Clark, surrounded by loved ones, passed away peacefully at her home in Nashville, Tennessee.

 

GUIDELINES & ELIGIBILITY

Applicant must:

  • Be an African American Female majoring in Engineering at Tennessee State Unversity

  • Be a Rising Junior in the Fall of 2024

  • Have a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

A student can only receive one scholarship during her academic career

The Yvonne Y. Clark Excellence in Engineering Scholarship Recipient will receive $2,000
